Police memos lead to state ethics investigation

“An 8 News investigation uncovers Petersburg, Virginia police department memos threatening officer’s jobs if they speak with defense attorneys, the officers are also ordered to ensure successful prosecutions and seek victory in their cases.”

“The memos are copied to the Prosecuting Attorney who responds thanking the officer who issued them. State ethics guidelines however forbid prosecutors from encouraging witnesses not to speak with the defense. As a result of investigative reporter A.J. Lagoe’s reports, a state ethics investigation has been launched.”
