Investigative Photojournalist/Producer

TODAY’S TMJ4, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is looking for an Investigative Photojournalist/Producer to work in our award-winning Special Projects unit.  This photojournalist/producer is responsible for: 

  • Generating, researching, shooting, editing and writing high quality investigative stories
  • Assist investigative reporters break exclusive stories as well as provide an investigative angle to daily news stories
  • Operate electronic news gathering equipment
  • Run live microwave truck
  • Editing short and long-format news stories under tight deadline

The right candidate will be a proactive self-starter with the ability to manage a large number of ongoing projects with little supervision – while seeking to create new ones. Must work well in stressful situations, meeting pressure of deadlines. Also, must be able to travel at a moment’s notice, fly in helicopter, and must be willing to work long hours and various shifts, sometimes undercover, to ensure the highest quality of investigative work.  Strong background as an investigative producer/photojournalist with knowledge of CAR (Computer-Assisted Reporting) and research under the Freedom of Information Act, and knowledge of undercover techniques, a plus. Must understand how to take complex stories and put them together so they are understandable, legal and compelling, and be a good storyteller.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must have at least 2 – 4 years experience as a photojournalist/producer or multi-media journalist in a medium to large television market. Must be able to edit in a non-linear system like Edius, Avid, or Final Cut Pro. Ability to do high-end effects editing a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license and car. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field is preferred.
