The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is seeking an experienced editor to lead a group of investigative reporters in developing meaningful and impactful stories. Our culture places high value on investigative and watchdog reporting and our newspaper is growing and healthy because of this emphasis. Our ambitions in this area have never been higher and the successful candidate will be land in one of the best news environments in the country for this kind of work.
Key requirements:
• Demonstrated understanding of watchdog and investigative reporting techniques, including use of public records and databases and knowledge of state and federal access laws.
• High level of competence as a supervisor, capable of improving experienced journalists with a collaborative, coaching approach.
• Highly developed editing skills, including assessing story ideas for feasibility and impact, working with reporters to choose the best structure and form, ensuring reader engagement and impact. Editing skills must go beyond a writing focus to encompass visual planning and strategizing on print and online presentation.
• Collaborative newsroom leader who works well with others and can see beyond the next story to help advance the future of the newspaper through high-impact journalism.
