Public Affairs Reporter

The Columbus Dispatch is the No. 1 source of information about state and federal government and politics in Ohio. We are seeking a Public Affairs Reporter to write impact stories on those topics and dominate the beat. Specifically, this opening is a justice/watchdog beat, covering the Ohio attorney general, inspector general, ethics commission, statewide gambling issues, Ohio Supreme Court and related agencies.

Ideal candidates should have demonstrated job skills, the ability to communicate both orally and in writing; be able to deal effectively with the public in complex situations; have ability to conduct interviews, complete research, and organize information and materials.  Must have well-developed journalistic skills and be able to spell and punctuate correctly.  Must have the ability to develop and utilize contacts in the community, work well under pressure and meet daily deadlines. Prefer a minimum of 3 years' experience reporting on a daily newspaper other than a college publication. Computer-assisted reporting skills a plus.
