IRE and NICAR offer several opportunities for members and even non-members to exchange ideas, information, techniques and war stories. Joining is easy and, if you don't want the e-mails coming directly to you, you can review listserv archives at your leisure.

The IRE-Plus Mailing List serves as a forum for the discussion of techniques related to investigative reporting. Members seeking advice in a specific area or on a special project can find help here. The NICAR-L Mailing List serves as a forum for the discussion of subjects related to computer-assisted reporting. It also acts as a posting board for new developments at NICAR, including seminar announcements and database information. Access listserv archives.
CENSUS-L
The CENSUS-L was started as an offshoot of NICAR-L. Discussion is primarily about the Census, but there may be talk about mapping as well.
