| Summary | New York's Governor George Pataki has eliminated many prison programs that were originally put into place after a massive prison riot almost 30 years ago. It's much more difficult for prisoners to get parole in New York now because the state receives money that's directly proportionate to the number of people imprisoned (because of the Violent Criminal Incarceration Act, passed by Congress in 1995). |
