| Summary | An economic downturn in South Korea resulted in a number of middle-class households falling into poverty. The adults in these households became unable to properly care for their children, who were left to survive on their own. In many cases, these children were forced to bed, and some chose to commit suicide. Using data from government documents, the reporters discovered an average of 28 children were abandoned each day while the government stood by. |
