ABC News goes undercover to expose telemarketing fraud. In this investigation, ABC decided to turn the tables and con the con men by setting up shop in Las Vegas, the capital of telemarketing fraud. Asking prospective job applicants to show their best pitch, ABC used hidden cameras to document their actions. Applicants were caught scamming people out of thousands of dollars by pitching phony charities and prize awards, like fancy cars they had no intention of delivering. They thought they were suckering so-called "mooches", but what they didn't know is that they were calling attorneys general and consumer advocates all over the country. (April 24, 1996)

The investigation tracked and authenticated reports that a government witness in a major drug trial who had been relocated to the area had swindled people right before being relocated with the protection of Federal Marshals. Nightline explored a current dilemma in the criminal justice system - the reluctance of prosecutors to try child sexual abuse cases because of the climate of doubt surrounding young children's testimony. Nightline found that many of the nation's prosecutors are choosing to plead out the cases for lesser charges or failing to prosecute altogether. Most startling, the investigation also revealed that the climate of doubt about children's testimony has been fueled by a combination of p.r., defense experts, and "research" that is without scientific foundation. WJAR decided to investigate findings from a state probe into a Coventry group home and its treatment of resident, Audrey Whitford. WJAR obtained a final investigative report conducted by a state oversight agency into her alleged abuse. Abuse centering around inhumane treatment, withholding food and medicine and unnecessary restraints ordered by former staff psychologist, Dr. Robert Harris. The investigation also found that Harris was fired from the Trudeau Center as a result of the investigation. (December 5, 6, 1996)
