Million-Dollar Bust
The Texas Tech student newspaper looked into why the university was losing money on a parking garage that sat empty. What they found were prominent members of the university board of regents and members on the alumni association board, as well as owners from the parking garage are all from the same fraternity. The deal was spun to look good, but to date, the university has lost $850,000.

Quest for Transparency
The investigations in the series come after Bloomberg News sued the Federal Reserve in 2008, seeking to force the disclosure of details related to the central bank's emergency assistance programs. After a lower court found in Bloomberg's favor, the Federal Reserve released a list of securities used to produce the stories.

Prisoners Dilemma: How NYC's Bail System Puts Justice on Hold
This story detailed how the imposition of financial bail in relatively minor criminal cases results in the pretrial detention of thousands of mostly poor, largely black or Hispanic New Yorkers every year. It explored every aspect of the process in which bail is set from arrest to arraignment to jail, looking at the role of police, prosecutors, judges, bail bond agents and other players. The piece documented deviations between the reality of bail and its statutory purpose and charted the impact of bail and detention on individual lives and the justice system, as well as dissecting some possible reforms to the system.

The Anthrax Case
60 Minutes looked into the five years old chase between FBI and Steven Hatfill. Hatfill in 2001 was investigated in the Anthrax case and was said to be responsible by the FBI. However, there was distorted and fallacious evidence given to the media at the time. The investigation by 60 Minutes showed that the case was not as air tight as the FBI claimed.

Selling a Dream, Buying a Nightmare
Over a period of two decades, investors in Kentucky-based oil and gas well development and securities firm Robo Enterprises, Inc. "lost more than 95 percent of everything they invested, in amounts approaching $100 million." Meanwhile, the company continued to make money even as its drilling operations brought in less and less money. Yet, Kentucky securities regulators dragged their feet on taking action even as the complaints began to mount.

Lethal and Leaking
In Hanford, WA millions of gallons of nuclear waste have been stored underground. The Department of Energy has been working to clean up the site since the early 1990s. However due to engineering miscalculations, the development of a treatment plant is behind schedule. Errors such as defective equipment and other mistakes that risk the safety of the plant have forced the price of the clean up to triple.
