The child's best interest
On the surface, the divorce case in the small town of Oskaloosa, Kansas looked like many others involving children. The parents signed property and custody agreements and a judge approved them. The child was ordered to live with her father. A closer examination by KCTV revealed the judge gave custody of the five year old girl to a twice-convicted child molester. We found the child living with him in a remote area in the same mobile home where he had molested a daughter from an earlier marriage. The investigation discovered that the judge ordered the girl to live with her father even though he knew about the man's criminal history. After the reports by the KCTV, the judge recused himself and a new judge ordered the child removed from the father's custody and placed with her mother. The judge also limited the father to supervised visitation, ordered home studies, and required physical and psychiatric exams.
