3-part Corporate Espionage Series
Between Aptil and August 2008, Mother Jones published an exclusive three-part investigation into corporate espionage on its Web site, MotherJones.com. The groundbreaking series exposed a private security company that spied on activist groups, and it also blew the cover on a mole for the gun lobby who spent more than a decade infiltrating the highest ranks of the gun-control movement.

Lights and Sirens
The emergency vehicles in Baltimore are involved in a large number of violent crashes each year. The most common link among all of the accidents is that rookie officers are not obeying the rules. Over half of the police cars drove more than 10 mph over the speed limit on emergency calls, which is against the rules. In other situations, 8 out of 10 vehicles would speed without deploying lights and sirens.

Who's driving your kids? Records spotty
One in six school Georgia bus drivers whose records were examined by the AJC and WSB-TV was found to have a serious violation on his or her personal or professional driving record. "In the past seven years, 613 school bus drivers have had their licenses suspended, including 21 who were still ferrying this children this month despite suspended licenses...The investigation found 342 Georgia school bus drivers with criminal records, including 22 who have spent time in prison." Lax enforcement, weak policies regarding background checks, and a shortage of school bus drivers are among the factors that have helped create this situation. In all, 34 school bus drivers were "sidelined" after the AJC and WSB-TV inquired about them. This series includes breakdowns for the counties in the AJC's various zoned editions.
