Iraq -- The War Card: Orchestrated Deception on the Path to War
The project, the product of two and half years of reporting and research, produced a 380,000-word database that juxtaposes what President Bush and seven top officials were saying for public consumption against what was known, or should have been known, on a day-to-day basis. This fully searchable database includes the public statements, drawn from both primary sources (such as official transcripts) and secondary sources (such as major news organizations) over the two years beginning on September 11, 2001. It also interlaces relevant information from government reports, books, articles, speeches and interviews. An interactive timeline shows the examination of the records. All 935 records highlighted false statements and hundreds of secondary accounts that illuminate the discrepancies between what was being said against what was known privately, for a two-year time span.

Command Mistake
As a result of this WISH-TV (Indianapolis, IN) report, the United States Marine Corps is now issuing helmets with ballistic padding to all marines. Previously, only the Army was issuing padded helmets; and some marines were buying their own padding. The story showed that college football players' helmets were more protective than the marine helmet."The cost to care for a head-injured soldier with permanent brain damage is $2.5 to $3 million. The cost of the helmet pads is as little as $30." Story contains on-ground elements filmed in Germany and Iraq.

The Lie Factory
An investigative piece featured in Mother Jones, this article exposes a secret Pentagon unit which was established just weeks after the events of September 11. The unit, known as the Office of Special Plans, passed on intelligence from Iraq's weapons programs and Al Qaeda ties to Vice President Cheney. According the the questionnaire, the report "also traced the links between neo-conservative Washington think tanks that had for years advocated invading Iraq, and the Pentagon unit, which was under the direction of Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and Undersecretary Douglas J. Feith."
