"No Reciprocity: Canadian Hit and Run"
In Everett, a vehicle with British Columbia plates struck a young boy and fled the scene, driving across the border back into Canada. Upon realizing the driver was Canadian, U.S. investigators dropped the case and did not ticket the man. An investigation by KIRO-TV finds that it is common for tickets issued to B.C. residents to remain unpaid without consequence because of the lack of a "reciprocity agreement" between Washington and British Columbia.

KIRO-TV used mapping software to prove that more than 600 registered sex offenders in Washington state are living within one city block of a licensed daycare, a state law violation. The reporters found an entire household of pedophiles living two doors away from a daycare. The state knew of this situation, but kept it a secret. KIRO-TV cameras also captured a known child molester living at the same address as a licensed home daycare facility.

Slow to Act
How long does it take Washington state to shut down the day care centers who've time and again violated state standards? KING-TV asked this same question and battled three months for access to records. They found that of 60 day care centers shut down in Western Washington in the last three years, one-third of them were allowed to stay open far too long.

Fatal Assumption
Expert auto repair surgeons lure customers into thinking they have a safe car by creating dummy airbags covers, but the bags are not inside. The tape exposes the case of a 50-year-old woman who was in a car accident and her air bag never deployed. The airbag had been cut out by the dealer who sold her the car. Dealers save thousands of dollars and that could cost lives. Many other cases like these are investigated by the news team. The tape shows how to tell a fake from a real air bag. It also holds a few of the liars accountable for making buyers think the cars have air bags.

KIRO TV finds that "the Department of Labor and Industries does not do criminal background checks before issuing licenses to professional plumbers, electricians and contractors. KIRO TV uncovers more than 400 felons, convicted of at least 3500 crimes carrying state badges. This list also includes 45 registered sex offenders who acquired residential permits."
