Cybercrime Inc.
With increased on-line banking and money transactions comes an increase in cyber-crime. This comes from putting more emphasis on user convenience instead of security. Part of the increase in cyber-crime is also due to meth traffickers, adept at operating localized theft rings, joining forces with global cyber-crime rings. Also some groups, such as those in Russia, are making ordinary citizens unknowing mules to carry out reshipment and money laundering schemes. Law enforcement has been spotty due to cross-jurisdictional hurdles.

Unnecessary epidemic
This extensive investigation showed that Congress and the Drug Enforcement Administration could have stopped methamphetamine growth across the West during the 1990s and still can. The newspaper explained how the drug is able to be controlled because it relies on chemical ingredients produced by only a handful of factories worldwide. Two clampdowns on the legal trade of the chemicals caused meth shortages, prompting users to quit and meth-related property crime to fall. But the drug trade survived because of loopholes and lax enforcement. The scope of this story includes examinations of DEA drug seizures, DEA-registered sellers of the drug, ephedrine drug shipments, ephedrine seizures, congressional records, the federal budget, federal audits, property tax records, patents, academic studies and public policy.

AfterMeth
A six-day series on how meth labs affect a community, particularly the property owners and extended families of meth users and meth cooks. The 14-month investigation found that drug clean-up is hit-and-miss, there are few safeguards to protect potential secondary victims, no public money is available to help sanitize meth-tainted property, and there is no scientific-based standard for answering the question of how much meth is hazardous.
