"The Pledge"
This story explains changes in Public Health policies of the Bush administration, particularly the approach to preventing sexually transmitted diseases among young people. For 20 years the policy had been to get kids to use condoms; a policy that worked. Insecurity on Campus
As reported by two teams of journalism students at Southern Methodist University and Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism at the University of North Texas, many colleges were failing to inform students about violent crimes-such as rape-in and around their campuses. Also, many campuses were misinterpreting or ignoring the Clery Act, which requires disclosure of campus-related crimes. Many rapes were ignored or were logged as simple 'assaults'. As a result, U.S. Department of Education launched an investigation into the story's findings.

This series examines California's failing youth prison system. They compare the California system to better ones in Texas and Missouri.

The Hidden Cause of AIDS
This story analyzes the spread of AIDS through rural areas in Mozambique, Africa. People in small, rural communities who should be at a low risk for contracting the virus have very high infection rates. It turns out that this is because men from these areas often leave to go work in the mines in South Africa, but keep girlfriends and wives in Mozambique. The miners get AIDS from prostitutes around the mines and then transmit it to their partners at home. The story also explores the socioeconomic effects of AIDS on small rural communities, and looks at ways in which the government and NGOs are working to stop this trend.
