Fort Worth Weekly partnered with University of North Texas students who made open records requests of all Texas law enforcement agencies to obtain data on deaths and injuries in Texas resulting form law enforcement agency individual's Taser use.

Unequal Force
Austin Police Department records show that police are more likely to use force against minorities than against white people. Austin police do not use force more often than police in other comparable cities. But when they do use force, it is often directed against minorities. The authors look at specific cases to see how socio-economic factors, education and diversity affect who the police use force against. This article prompted changes in city policy.

Is this a lethal weapon?
When Steven Wallen was shot and killed by two sheriff's deputies, the officers claimed the suspect used a pair of handcuffs as a lethal weapon. Further analysis of that day showed that much of what police told the media was false and that the deputies acted in ways that violated the use-of-force policy of the police department. Continued investigation revealed that the deputies involved were actually a training unit and were not the veteran law enforcement officers they were claimed to be in the paper.
