Case Against the High Priest of Justice (Sri Lanka)
This tipsheet walks the reader through a story. The author writes, "The story I am going to tell is one which started as a minor incident and developed into a massive crisis. At a high point of it, the parliament had to move a motion of impeachment against the chief justice and the supreme court in response imposed a prevention order on the parliament. This protracted crisis which has caused a rot in the entire judicial system of the country is continuing with no end in sight."

Terrorism and the Media: Dispatches from the Frontlines
Long before the tragedy of September 11, Sri Lanka was dealing with a daily struggle against terrorism. The Tamal Tigers, a terrorist secessionist group, rose from a rag tag group of rebels to become a frightening military force. They have a naval arm, the Sea Tigers, and often employ children in all their units. Athas has covered the conflict despite numerous attempts by the government to control media reports. He has endured many hardships in his pursuit of this important story. It is a valuable read on the difficulties in covering terrorism and the necessity to do so.
