Some schools with poor standardized test scores fare much better in the rankings when economic and social factors such as poverty, language or transiency are taken into account. Some experts say demographics should be taken into account when schools are ranked, while others contend it is unfair to poor students to use a measure that does not hold their schools to a single academic standard.
