Description

The Columbus Dispatch reports that "One of the principal issues facing Americans today is crime. Is crime as extensive and serious as many say it is? The Dispatch decided to find out and devote the resources of the entire news staff to bring our readers a complete, in-depth look at crime during one 24-hour period in the Columbus area. The day selected for the extensive project was Wednesday, April 20. Dispatch reporters, editors and photographers were at the scene of many crimes, interviewing investigators and victims. We were there when testimony was given on crime legislation in the Ohio legislature and the U.S. Congress. We watched and listened to criminal trials and the dispensing of justice in courtrooms. We attempted to leave no area or activity unreported. During the six-day series, The Dispatch presented a complete, unbiased and unbossed look at one day of crime. We are certain this series will give you a strong indication of the crime problem in the Columbus area." --Robert B. Smith, Editor.
