This entry includes six separate reports that are all related to the same topic and make up a collection that was the culmination of a more than five-month investigation. The stories focus on a 15 year old Connecticut girl who became "trapped" in a Boston hospital for more than 10 months, after her parents disagreed with a medical diagnosis and asked to have her discharged. The parents lost custody of their daughter and began a painful odyssey to regain custody outside their home state that went on to make national news. Our hard-hitting and unprecedented reports were the first to bring the issue to light and then delved much deeper into the topic using exclusive documents obtained from confidential sources, under-cover video and hours of research. The end result was extensive coverage of a previously non-reported topic and expansion on that topic by uncovering that the problem exists not just for one girl, but for patients and parents nationwide.
