Los Angeles Magazine reporter Ann Louise Bardach noticed when tabloids, such as the National Enquirer, The Globe, and The Star, stopped filling their pages with stories about Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then, Schwarzenegger became governor of California. So Bardach did some investigating and found that the CEO of AMI, the corporate owner of the previously mentioned tabloids, met with the actor in July 2003, just weeks before Schwarzenegger's announcement to run, to discuss joining forces with AMI. Bardach also finds that reporters and editors at these tabloids were told not to pursue Schwarzenegger stories, and that the actor-turned-governor is now on AMI payroll, earning $250,000 per year.
