Description

The News Tribune found many state agencies violating drug forfeiture laws by keeping items for their own use, often failing to remit a small portion of the value of the goods to the state auditor, as state law requires. The investigation found that the Tacoma Police Department has a propensity to keep car, purportedly for undercover work. As a result of the series, the state auditor ordered his deputies to begin analyzing police forfeiture records more closely, June 19 - 20, 1994.
