Description

The Sun revealed that wounded soldiers in Iraq were bleeding to death from treatable injuries because the U.S. Army had not equipped them with modern tourniquets, despite the urging of the service's top combat surgeons and despite a directive from the U.S. Central Command. The Pentagon shipped 172,000 modern tourniquets to Iraq several days after the initial story was published.
