Description

The four-part series, "Corporate Hog Farming: Missouri at a Crossroads," examined the social, political, economic and enviromental impact of existing, and proposed, large scale hog farming operations in Northwest Missouri. The series illustrated how the loss of family farms and population in the region created a vacuum that corporate hog operations have sought to fill. But not without controversy. Many people fear the end of the family farm in thw wake of the massive competition. There are also concerns about the enviromental impact of hog operations. However, other people have wlcomed the corporate farms and the jobs and economic development they have brought to the region.
