"This series analyzed every sex assault against a child that made it to the court system over seven years." Despite high conviction rates, many of the child abusers 86 percent plea were bargained. The AA News analysis found that in the last six years, one-fifth of the offenders were given stiff sentences, while almost half of those convicted were given less than a year in jail or probation.
