Description

Honolulu Magazine examines why the state's government-run schools have academically and financially failed. "Hawaii was ranked the seventh lowest out of the 50 states in its quality of schools." Yet the state continues to run things the same, not looking into the issues that hold their system back. Issues such as inequalities in school systems, poor financial budgeting, and lack of appropriate teacher salaries. These issues have left many parents investigating the alternatives of home schooling, or having their children attend private or charter schools. Ultimately, Hawaii believes their "biggest mistake is in our own Constitution, which give 'control' of education to the state."
