After three years of governmental investigation into his financial activities, early last year Arizona Gov. J. Fife Symington III seemed to have put allegation of misconduct behind him. In July, 1995 however, the New Times uncovered documents suggesting that a multimillion-dollar SLIM contract had been rigged, and the governor had been involved in the awarding of that contract. As the year proceeded, the New Times continued to probe the SLIM fiasco. Meanwhile, the governor's financial problems forced him into personal bankruptcy. (July 20, Oct. 5, 26 & Dec. 28, 1995)
