Description

The Westword investigates the controversy surrounding guardian ad litems (GAL), court-appointed attornies charged with representing the interests of children in juvenile court. GALs are used when a child is temporarily made a ward of the state while a judge determines whether they can someday be reunited with their parents. Many GALs do not show up for court and do not even take the time to meet with their clients. (Aug. 23 - 29, 1996)
