Description

Series revealed the many failures of the Memphis Police Department to adequately investigate rape. Major findings include the revelation that MPD had destroyed evidence in hundreds of cases. The series also revealed that detectives missed multiple opportunities to arrest serial rapists, some cases were closed even after police secured a DNA match, and patrolmen were promoted to detective not for merit but because of the “bid system,’’ a practice that rewards seniority.
