Description

In 2018, 47,000 people died from opioids. That’s more than were killed by vehicle accidents or firearms. And illegal fentanyl, an opioid that is 50 times more powerful than heroin is the main driver of deaths. Fentanyl is so strong it’s used to tranquilize elephants. The overwhelming supply of illegal fentanyl is bought online, and shipped from China through the postal system to the US. For more than a year 60 Minutes investigated the crisis, following the trail from two deaths a week apart in Akron, Ohio all the way back to China where we found and confronted the alleged trafficker.
