5 Investigates worked for more than a year to uncover and expose horrific abuse of several children who were placed in a single state licensed foster home in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The abuse that they suffered was often reported and documented, but it was inexplicably allowed to continue for years with the proof being hidden in protected state documents and sealed court records. Within days of the airing of our first stories, additional victims came forward and the state launched an investigation into the former foster home and the handling of cases. Prosecutors also met with the abuse survivors and have now charged three adults with sexual assault including the former foster mother, a registered nurse who was supposed to be a mandatory reporter of abuse.
