Description

A culmination of three years of reporting, in 2019 WHIO-TV obtained the first-ever
interview with now 87-year-old veteran Richard Staab. A federal rule was named after
Staab to prevent the VA from denying veterans payment when they sought emergency
care at a non-VA hospitals. Despite the rule change in Staab’s name, he remained without a refund for $48,000 in emergency care he paid out of pocket nearly one decade ago.
