Whether they’re testifying in Congress or court, or opining on television or podcasts, moonlighting academics increasingly influence policy on issues from drug prices to antitrust regulation to climate change. Yet they often don’t say who’s paying them - and almost never reveal publicly how much they were paid. That information can be found in university filings, but even state schools rarely made those records available.
