Description

Since the 1980s, as the population of New York City has become increasingly diverse, the brass at the NYPD has remained predominantly white. THE CITY crunched the numbers and revealed that although 70 percent of New York City is Hispanic, black, Asian, or mixed race, 72 percent of the New York City’s Police Department top ranks — including chiefs, deputy inspectors, inspectors, and captains — is white.
