Session description: Studies show media coverage of Indigenous communities can bolster damaging stereotypes about violence and poverty and dehumanized victims. Indigenous communities deserve better. This session will explore how to be culturally sensitive and build trust in Indigenous communities while crafting your next investigation. Speakers will share how they create meaningful investigations when data surrounding Native communities is often incomplete or non-existent. We will also share resources that can help you add critical historic context to report on sensitive issues responsibility.
