Investigative and Projects Temporary Contract Editor
EdSource, a non-profit education news organization in California, is seeking an experienced investigations editor to spearhead ambitious projects to watchdog roadblocks and injustices affecting education for all.
This is a temporary contract position (~10 hours per week) until a new CEO is announced. The successful candidate would have a portfolio of work that includes projects and investigations that are data-driven and include multimedia storytelling. The ideal candidate will also have 10 years of experience as an editor, along with strong writing skills.
EdSource values collaborative, collegial candidates who can work with experienced investigative reporters while mentoring others to develop investigative skills. The successful candidate will work creatively with a team that includes specialists in data analysis, data visualization, web development and social media. This editor would practice rigorous journalism standards with the ability to recognize when stories require legal review. The priority is to lead the publication of projects in progress as well as launch others that would publish in 2025. Experience managing sometimes complex collaborations with other newsrooms is a plus.
EdSource, which has the largest staff of education reporters in California and one of the largest nationwide, has a track record of producing award-winning work at both the national and state levels.
EdSource’s headquarters are in Oakland, although this editor can work remotely from California.
