Joan Konner Visiting Professor of Journalism
The Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time, visiting professor (rank to be determined) to be appointed for two years.
As the Joan Konner Visiting Professor of Journalism, the incumbent will contribute to strengthening our teaching of journalism in a changing media landscape. Teaching assignments may include teaching a foundational Reporting or Writing course and/or a seminar in the incumbent’s specialty area, supervising masters’ projects, and advising students. The incumbent may also contribute to the Master of Arts program as well as the dual degree journalism and computer science program.
The ideal candidate would have a substantial publishing record as well as experience as a teacher, writer and editor. Demonstrated experience with video journalism and documentary film production, especially in the areas of climate and environmental reporting, is preferred. Candidates should also have some experience in investigative journalism or qualitative and quantitative reporting, including but not limited to methods in data collection, analysis and visualization. We are particularly interested in a candidate’s ability to teach about the complexities of race, ethnicity and other forms of diversity as they apply to journalism.

To qualify for this two-year visiting professorship the candidate must currently hold an appointment at another academic institution.
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
This two-year visiting position is expected to be appointed from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, with a renewed appointment from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, pending performance and administrative approval.
