IRE is proud to partner with The University of the Incarnate Word to host a day-and-a-half-long training workshop on Thursday, March 27, and Friday, March 28, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. This event is specifically designed to support students of color and students of all backgrounds attending minority-serving institutions, focusing this year on Hispanic-Serving Institutions nationwide.
Students will learn a variety of investigative skills including techniques to conduct investigative interviews, how to access public information, and tapping into the power of data and AI. The event will be held on UIW's campus.
This workshop is possible thanks to the Rick Gevers-Karen Burns Diversity Endowed Fund for College Journalists established in support of training at HBCUs, HSIs and other campuses serving student journalists of color. Other sponsors include The University of the Incarnate Word, Society of Professional Journalists-San Antonio Chapter, and San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists.
- On Thursday, March 27, the workshop will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with optional hands-on data training - RSVP required.
- Following the afternoon sessions, a networking mixer with full-time area professionals will be held on-site from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
- On Friday, March 28, the workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
