Join this regional training event at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, April 11-12, 2025. This workshop is supported by the Jeff German Fund for Investigative Journalism, the Stewart Foundation, and the Jack and Betty Lampros Journalism Fund at Weber State University.
The Jeff German Fund was established shortly after German’s death through contributions by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Arnold Ventures, and the Knight Foundation. Further contributions were made by the IRE Board of Directors and staff, as well as more than 100 individual donors from across the country.
Join us on Friday to hear from award-winning investigative and data journalists, and on Saturday morning to learn the power of spreadsheets. Or, both days to give your career the ultimate boost.
Sessions will focus on finding, cultivating, and protecting sources, deep web searches, covering vulnerable populations, environmental impacts, and public records.
The workshop will run from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11 and 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 (half-day of hands-on Google Sheets training).
Workshop Fees
Thanks to generous support from the Weber State University and through the Jeff German Fund for Investigative Journalism, registration for professional, academic, retiree and associate members is just $55 and comes with a free one-year IRE membership renewal. Student members can register for $25 and will also receive a free one-year membership renewal.
An optional hands-on training on Saturday morning is an additional fee of $15. Seating is limited, Friday registration is not required to sign up.
All attendees must be current IRE members through April 13, 2025. To purchase tickets, you must be logged into your member profile.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be sent via email to logistics@ire.org. All cancellations must be in writing. There is a $30 processing fee for all cancellations until April 4. After that date, requests for refunds will be considered case by case. Membership fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Recording Notice
All IRE events are subject to being photographed, video/audio-recorded, screen captured and/or live-streamed. Attendees, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors may be captured via these formats. All sessions, materials and activities are subject to recording by IRE and may be reproduced in part or whole, and distributed or used in any way consistent with IRE’s mission.
