IRE will host its third Google Journalism Fellow this summer and the application process is open until January 31. Apply now!
The Google Journalism Fellowship program lasts for 10 weeks during the summer, the first of which is spent at Google headquarters. Fellows stay with various host organizations and work on projects related to data-driven journalism, news apps, online free expression and the business side of journalism.
IRE is looking for a student with a passion for investigative reporting and some experience with data. If you have a particular topic you'd like to tackle, we want to hear about it.
Our past Google Fellows have worked on vastly different projects: In 2013 Nicola Pasulka (graduate of New York University) worked with crime data to assess law enforcement response to hate crimes; in 2014 Aram Chung (graduate of Columbia University) helped develop responsive note embeds for DocumentCloud and shared her knowledge of graph databases and crowd sourcing projects with the DocumentCloud and NICAR database library staff.
If you're a journalism student who's able to work in the United States, consider applying for the fellowship and tell us what sorts of projects you're interested in working on.
