What is NICAR Q&A?

Every week in the NICAR data library we get phone calls and emails from reporters who have their hands in data. Some call us with questions about particular databases, or to ask for help with SQL, or to celebrate and share work they've just completed. We love these conversations and trouble-shooting sessions, the collective sense of relief when we find a solution. The same spirit of camaraderie and willingness to help exists on the NICAR-L listserv.

To further that sense of community, we're going to publish some Q&As with reporters who work with data. We’ll be talking to novices and experts, journalists working at newspapers, TV stations, and everything in between. Tomorrow we'll post our first Q&A, with the belief that even more knowledge-sharing about strategies and workflows for data-driven reporting can only help foster that sense of community and embolden reporters in any newsroom to go after data.
