Description

A Fresno Bee investigation of gastric bypass surgery -- a procedure that helps patients drop 100 pounds or more virtually instantly -- reveals that the treatment has a higher mortality rate than many doctors state. Many say the rate is less than 1 percent, but the Bee "uncovered seven deaths following the surgery in a three-month period. Twelve people died in less than two years. The number of deaths is probably higher" than originally believed.
