Description

In this New Times investigation, reporter Tony Ortega went undercover in east L.A. posing as a poor man in need of medical attention to find out if Community Health Foundation, a nonprofit health care provider for low-income people in L.A., was forcing its patients to pay and cutting loose those who couldn't. The investigation uncovered that many were patients were being turned away, the organization was using its political clout to land health care contracts with the city, and poor management of services and funds persisted in the organization.
