F. Lee Bailey, the bulldog former Marine pilot turned firebellied lawyer, has thwarted authority many times in his life. The quality has made him one of the best defense lawyers in the country, but now it could lead him to jail. Silverman and Dannen's profile of Bailey explores the feud between him and fellow O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro, which evolved from competitive to bloodthirsty during the Simpson trial. In 1994, Shapiro and Bailey shared another client -- a wealthy drug trafficker named Claude Duboc who agreed to forfeit millions of dollars in cash and assets in the hope of reducing a life sentence. Bailey took one of those assets -- a block of stock which he eventually sold for $20 million. Now the government says the money belongs to them. Bailey has refused to give it up -- and his enemies are pushing for jail time.
