This story began when WTMJ-TV discovered the Milwaukee Police Department was providing information on the location of high risk sex offenders in the community. The policy was originally designed to be of help to protect neighborhoods from people who committed multiple sex offenses. Unfortunately the system wasn't updated regularly by the police department, with some offenders disappearing from the system and leaving communities unaware if offenders were ever in their area and what kind of risk they posed. WTMJ also found that requesting information about sex offenders in the community was made more difficult by the Milwaukee Police Department.
