The Star-Ledger uses the 2000 Census to examine the changing population of New Jersey. Mirroring national trends, the data showed traditional nuclear families giving way to more groupings of live-in partners and single parents; the graying of the Baby Boom generation boosted the state's median age by more than two years; and the number of white New Jerseyans was virtually unchanged while the number of Hispanics, Asians and, to a lesser extent, blacks all rose since the 1990 Census.
