Series inspired by an attorney who won a lawsuit against a large chain store that was selling lead sinkers without a warning label, as required by California's Proposition 65 Toxics law. Part of the court settlement was funding for education on lead poisoning. The author decided to do a comprehensive series on the current status of lead poisoning in children and efforts to prevent lead poisoning in various communities. The object was to teach as many people as possible about the possible sources of lead in their environment.
