Description

Canada has a youth job crisis. There is a generation of young people who entered the work force as the country plunged into the recession of the early '90s and whose lives have been on hold ever since. Officially, the unemployment rate for this group is 15 percent. These numbers have always been regarded with suspicion. A team of reporters conducted face-to-face intercept interviews with 1,000 people between 18 and 30. Those surveys -- 95 questions -- were loaded into an access database. The results were sobering. Almost half of those who were out of school were either unemployed or getting by on $1,000 or less a month. Those with jobs feel underemployed and trapped in diminished expectations.
