Description

Michael Donald of Mobile, a young black man, was the victim of the last recorded lynching in America in 1981. The story explains the origins and terrible consequences of a night when hatred tore at Mobile's heart. The story assembled the first definitive account of Michael Donald's last hours and his chance encounter with two Klansmen. The story tells the story of the police investigation, a bungled affair that nearly let the killer walk free. The Klan had taken root in Mobile's shadows, nurtured by Bennie Jack Hays, an ex-con with a powerful hold on his followers. The story has in-depth interviews with the condemned man, Henry Hays. The night after the last installment ran Henry Hays was executed in Holman Prison at Atmore.
