The story looks closely at two incidents at Brown: 1) a Brown committee's decision to dismiss a date-rape charge against a student who is a Jordanian Prince and has ties to Brown trustees, and 2) Brown's decision not to fire a male professor despite credible reports that he had harassed more than one female student. The university's provost indicated that the professor's race played a role in the university's decision not to act. These two incidents -- along with a story by the same author in November, 1996, that examined Brown's suspension of a male student for having sex with a drunk woman who initiated the intercourse -- suggest a pattern of the university placing its own interests above its students.
